Malware Bytes Anti Malware Pro : is best known as a free tool that can help you when your regular antivirus doesn't do the job, for example when pugnacious malware kills your commercial antivirus's installer. The free product is scan only, with no real time protection against new threats. Malwarebytes' Anti Malware PRO 1.51 ($24.95, direct) does everything the free edition can do and adds protection against dangerous programs and Web sites. Unfortunately its real time protection just doesn't measure up.
The pro and free editions differ very little in appearance. The main tab for both offers scanning choices. The second tab, titled "Protection" is where you'll find a difference. In the free edition this page displays a chart of pro versus free features and offers a free trial. In the pro edition it holds simple settings that control real time protection.
Pros
Very good malware cleanup. Fast install, fast scan. Designed to block malware attack at many levels.
Cons
Less effective at rootkit removal. Didn't block all malware downloads. Poor malware blocking scores.
Bottom Line
The independent labs don't test Malwarebytes, so I have to rely solely on my own hands on tests. My results indicate that the product's malware removal capabilities are vastly better than its malware blocking abilities. That makes the free edition a better deal.
